Five Ministries Launch 2026 New Energy Vehicle Rural Promotion Campaign
[Policy Update] The 2026 New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Rural Promotion Campaign has officially commenced, with 155 vehicle models included in the official catalog.
Key Developments: 155 models span mainstream technological pathways, marking the first inclusion of popular models such as the Xiaomi SU7 and Tesla Model 3.
On June 25, five ministries—including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and the Ministry of Commerce—launched the campaign simultaneously in Tacheng, Xinjiang, and Chengmai, Hainan. Participating rural-focused models were prioritized based on long driving range, strong off-road capability, and high practicality, covering multiple technological routes including battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs).
Key Statistics: Cumulative sales boosted by over 23 million units; subsidy applications now free from quantity limits.
Rural consumers upgrading to NEVs can apply for trade-in subsidies without any restrictions on eligibility quantity. The Tacheng site featured 41 brands with more than 120 models, while the Chengmai site hosted over 30 brands and more than 50 models.
Strategic Foundation: Policy coordination strengthens market penetration in county-level regions.
The campaign is integrated with complementary policies such as closing gaps in charging and battery-swapping infrastructure and vehicle trade-in incentives. A dedicated platform has been established to enhance services and accelerate the large-scale adoption of NEVs in rural areas.
