Toyota and CATL to Build Battery Plant in Indonesia

[Supply Chain Collaboration] Toyota and CATL will localize production of hybrid vehicle batteries in Indonesia.

Core Development: USD 820 million project enables localized cell and module manufacturing

PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) has partnered with CATL, with a total investment of IDR 13 trillion (approximately USD 820 million), to produce battery packs, cells, and modules at its Karawang plant in West Java, with operations scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026.

Key Metrics: 6.9 GWh annual capacity supports ASEAN exports

CATL's Indonesia facility is set to commence production by end-2026, reaching an annual capacity of 6.9 gigawatt-hours. Separately, Toyota will invest JPY 12 billion to build a dedicated production line to supply its hybrid models in Indonesia and export globally through TMMIN.

Strategic Foundation: Chinese supply chain accelerates localization in Southeast Asia

This move signifies deep integration between Chinese battery makers and global automakers, advancing a model combining "overseas component exports + local operations" to strengthen cost efficiency and supply chain advantages.
