Tesla Halts Production of Model S and Model X, Ends Custom Orders to Accelerate AI and Robotics Push

[Product Adjustment] Tesla has officially ceased production of the Model S and Model X and discontinued new custom vehicle orders.

Core Development: Flagship Models Retired as Focus Shifts to AI and Robotics Transformation

Custom orders for the Model S and Model X will no longer be accepted starting April 1, 2026, with only limited inventory vehicles remaining for sale. Elon Musk confirmed this on X (formerly Twitter), adding that an “official farewell event” will be held for these two models.

Key Metrics: Capacity Utilization Below 30%; Price Hike Reflects End of Incentives

The original annual production capacity for these two models at the Fremont factory was 100,000 units, yet their combined 2025 sales totaled fewer than 30,000 units, resulting in a capacity utilization rate of only about 30%. Recently, prices for in-stock vehicles on Tesla’s U.S. website increased by $15,000 (approximately RMB 103,000), which actually reflects the expiration of prior incentives worth approximately RMB 100,000.

Strategic Rationale: Production Lines Repurposed for Optimus Humanoid Robot Mass Production

Tesla has explicitly stated it will reconfigure the existing production lines for its Optimus humanoid robot project, targeting an annual output of one million units, marking the company’s accelerated transformation into a technology enterprise centered on “AI + robotics + autonomous driving.”
