MIIT Deploys Key Tasks for Power Battery Recycling and Utilization
[Policy Update] Li Lecheng, Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), chaired the second meeting of the Special Task Force on Power Battery Recycling, outlining key tasks for system construction in 2026.
Core Development: Power batteries entering large-scale retirement phase
China's power batteries for new energy vehicles have now entered a period of large-scale retirement. Establishing a robust recycling and utilization system is both urgent and critically important. The meeting stressed the need to unify thinking and actions, implement decisions and deployments by the Party Central Committee and the State Council, focus on key challenges, and accelerate the establishment of a long-term mechanism.
Key Milestone: 2026 marks the start of the '15th Five-Year Plan' period
2026 is a pivotal year for implementing the 'Action Plan for Improving the Recycling and Utilization System for New Energy Vehicle Power Batteries.' Persistent, targeted efforts—akin to driving nails—are required to advance the development of regulations, policies, and standards.
Strategic Foundation: Strengthen cross-departmental collaborative governance
The meeting called on all task force members to enhance coordination, adopt integrated measures centered on the three pillars of regulations, policies, and standards, apply precise efforts, solidify accountability chains, and ensure the efficient operation of the recycling system.
