Eight New Energy Vehicle Makers Jointly Deny Rumors of Regulatory Summonses Over 'Battery Capacity Limitation'
[Market Update] Reports claiming that eight new energy vehicle manufacturers were summoned over OTA-related 'battery capacity limitation' (commonly known as 'locking battery capacity') are false. The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) and the involved companies have jointly issued clarifications.
Key Development: Eight Leading Automakers Collectively Deny Being Summoned or Investigated
On May 9, online rumors alleging that eight new energy vehicle makers were collectively summoned—and that three of them were under formal investigation—over OTA-based battery capacity limitations sparked widespread discussion. The implicated companies include BYD, Tesla, XPeng, NIO, Li Auto, GAC Aion, Aito (Wenjie), and Zeekr. All promptly released statements denying the claims. Liu Yan, Deputy Secretary-General of CAAM, confirmed that regulatory authorities have taken no supervisory action on this matter and emphasized that the online reports 'lack any official source and seriously contradict the facts.'
Strategic Foundation: Rebuilding Consumer Trust Through Transparent Communication
Although the recent reports were unfounded, the issue of 'battery capacity limitation' did trigger numerous owner complaints back in 2021. CAAM urges automakers to safeguard users’ right to information and right to choose when optimizing battery management systems, and to establish efficient after-sales channels to uphold brand reputation through integrity.
