BYD Partners with King Long Motors to Build EV Battery Plant in Vietnam
[International Cooperation] BYD has signed an agreement with Vietnam's King Long Motors to jointly build a $130 million electric vehicle battery factory.
Core Initiative: Filling the Commercial Vehicle Battery Gap in Vietnam
King Long Motors will handle all investment and construction, while BYD will provide battery technology and process support. Phase I will cover 4.4 hectares with an annual capacity of 3 GWh, focusing on batteries for electric buses, trucks, and other commercial vehicles. Phase II will expand the site to 10 hectares, adding passenger vehicle battery production lines and bringing total capacity to 6 GWh.
Strategic Foundation: Accelerating BYD’s Southeast Asia Expansion
The plant will be located in Thua Thien Hue Province, Vietnam, within King Long’s own industrial park. It is expected to achieve a localization rate exceeding 80% by Q2 2026. The two companies will also co-develop 34 fully electric sleeper coaches, which will be marketed under the "Made in Vietnam" brand targeting the mid-to-high-end intercity passenger transport segment, thereby strengthening their involvement in the regional supply chain.
