Audi and SAIC Deepen Collaboration with New Joint Entity

[Strategic Partnership] Audi and SAIC Motor have signed an agreement to establish an innovation technology center and co-develop four electric vehicle models.

Core Development: Establishment of an Audi-led Smart EV Technology Center

On April 17, 2026, Audi and SAIC Motor officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement to set up the Audi Innovation Technology Center in Shanghai, focusing on end-to-end R&D for smart electrification technologies and Intelligent Connected Vehicles (ICV). The existing SAIC Audi R&D team will be fully integrated into the new entity, which will hold independent authority over technical decisions.

Key Metrics: Four New Models + Leveraging Existing Channels

The two parties will jointly launch four AUDI models based on the Advanced Digitized Platform (ADP). The first SUV, E7X, will debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2026, followed by a third model—a sedan—scheduled for market launch in 2027. Sales will continue through SAIC Volkswagen’s network of over 1,000 dealerships, avoiding the costs of building a new channel.

Strategic Rationale: Addressing Pressure from Electrification Transition

Audi’s sales in China declined by 5% in 2025, reflecting its lagging pace in electrification. SAIC contributes a mature supply chain and localized market insights, enabling Audi to rapidly deliver products tailored to Chinese consumer preferences—such as customized infotainment systems and enhanced rear-seat comfort.
