Zeekr Responds to Overseas Vehicle Lock Controversy

[User Rights] Zeekr has issued a statement and implemented functional optimizations regarding an incident where a vehicle owner’s cross-border self-driving trip triggered in-car system restrictions.

Core Development: Controversy Arises from Imbalance Between Functional Restrictions and User Autonomy

On July 16, a vehicle owner from Henan Province drove his over RMB 500,000 Zeekr 9X into Kazakhstan, after which the vehicle’s infotainment system suddenly displayed a “Unlock Request” interface. Functions including navigation, multimedia, electronically controlled storage compartments, and the fuel tank cap were disabled, leaving only basic driving capabilities operational for over 30 hours.

Key Updates: Three Optimization Measures Implemented

The Zeekr app now features a dedicated “Cross-Border Protection” quick-unlock portal; an upcoming OTA update will include a “Cross-Border Protection” toggle switch, which will be disabled by default; and the customer service hotline 400-003-6036 has added a priority channel for overseas users.

Strategic Foundation: Clarifying Boundaries Between Ownership and Control Rights

Zeekr’s legal department stated that certain public commentary contains deliberate misrepresentations and false information. The company has begun preserving evidence and will pursue legal accountability where appropriate. At the same time, Zeekr emphasized its commitment to actively adopting reasonable user suggestions and swiftly addressing any product-related issues.
