XPeng Welcomes Tesla FSD's Entry into China

[Technology Update] XPeng stated it might be the only automaker welcoming Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) system entering the Chinese market.

Core Development: XPeng Proactively Welcomes Tesla FSD to Foster Industry Competition

On May 24, Thomas He, Vice President of XPeng (known on Weibo as @ThomasDianHuoChe), stated: “XPeng might be the only automaker welcoming Tesla FSD’s entry into China.” Following the May 21 launch event for the XPeng GX, Liu Xianming, Head of XPeng’s General Intelligence Center, emphasized that FSD’s arrival in China would drive healthy competition, and XPeng is ready to undergo high-level comparisons.

Strategic Foundation: Localization Capabilities Are XPeng’s Key Advantage

Liu Xianming pointed out that compared to Tesla’s FSD, XPeng’s VLA holds distinct advantages in adaptation to China-specific driving scenarios, accumulation of local data, and optimization of local computing power, enabling better handling of China’s complex road conditions. Both companies follow a pure vision-based approach, and their competition will mutually drive technological advancement.

Industry Impact: FSD Entry into China Still Awaits Regulatory Approval

Although Tesla’s international social media accounts claim that the supervised version of FSD supports 10 countries including China, Tesla’s customer service has clearly stated that the feature has not yet received regulatory approval, with a potential rollout expected as early as Q3 2026. Currently, customers can opt for an RMB 64,000 advanced driver-assistance package, but full functionality remains unavailable.
