Xiaomi SU7 Power-Closing Door Causes Owner's Fracture; Company Apologizes

[Safety Incident] A female owner of the Xiaomi SU7 suffered a thumb fracture after her hand was caught in the optional power-closing door. The company has issued an apology and pledged to cover all medical expenses.

Key Development: $7,600 Optional Power-Closing Door Lacks Full-Range Pinch Protection

On June 4, Ms. Zhao injured her right thumb when it was caught by the power-closing door while she was shutting it with a backhand motion, resulting in a fracture of the distal phalanx tuberosity. Her recovery is expected to take 1–2 months. Xiaomi acknowledged that this feature lacks pinch-protection design during the final 1–1.5 cm magnetic latching phase, creating a risk of finger entrapment.

Strategic Context: Industry-Wide Absence of End-Phase Pinch Protection

Most power-closing doors currently on the market do not include pinch-protection functionality during the purely magnetic closing phase after motor disengagement. Due to the short travel distance, high speed, and strong force involved, this phase poses a significant injury risk. Xiaomi stated it has apologized and initiated follow-up actions but has not yet clarified whether safety logic will be improved via an OTA update.
