Xiaomi Responds to Two YU7 Fire Incidents

#EV Industry Legal and Reputational Issues

[Safety Incident] Xiaomi has issued a statement regarding a fire at a repair shop in Hainan and a highway accident involving the YU7 in Henan.

Key Developments: Neither fire resulted in injuries; battery conditions were normal

On January 19, at 17:37, a Xiaomi vehicle caught fire inside a repair shop in Haikou, Hainan. Both driver and front passenger had already exited the vehicle. The traction battery status was normal, and firefighters extinguished the blaze.

On the same day at 16:03, on the S83 Lannan Expressway in Henan, a Xiaomi YU7 lost control on snowy roads while swerving to avoid a merging truck, resulting in a collision. Battery data remained normal until 16:14, after which the vehicle caught fire. All occupants safely evacuated.

Strategic Context: Emphasis on human-driven status and external factors as primary causes

  • -

In the Hainan incident, the fire occurred after the front seats were moved, with the exact cause still under investigation. The Henan crash was triggered by a truck’s hazardous lane merge combined with slippery road conditions, and the truck driver fled the scene.

In both cases, up until the vehicles went offline, neither the traction battery nor the auxiliary battery showed any anomalies. Xiaomi is currently cooperating with fire authorities in their investigation.
