Volkswagen China Recalls 64 Bentley Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles Over Traction Battery Fire Risk
[Safety Recall] Volkswagen Group China has recalled 64 imported Bentley Bentayga plug-in hybrid vehicles due to battery safety hazards.
Core Issue: Traction Battery Malfunction May Pose Fire Risk
A total of 64 Bentley Bentayga plug-in hybrids produced between March 7, 2023, and November 27, 2023, are affected. An internal fault in the traction battery may damage the cell separator, leading to a short circuit, which in extreme cases could cause overheating or even fire.
Key Measures: Dual Approach of Software Update and Module Replacement
Authorized dealers will upgrade the control unit software free of charge to enable early anomaly warnings. If an alert is triggered, the vehicle’s maximum state of charge will be limited to 50%, and owners must return to a dealership for inspection. Where necessary, the faulty battery module will be replaced free of charge. Prior to the update, owners should avoid charging via external power sources and disable the E-mode "Hold" function.
Industry Impact: Multiple Brands Respond Intensively to Battery Safety Regulations
This recall follows Volkswagen’s earlier action involving 1,045 Touareg plug-in hybrids. Around the same time, BMW and Porsche also announced recalls of imported vehicles, highlighting intensified regulatory scrutiny and sustained pressure on traction battery safety.
