Volkswagen China to Deliver L3 Autonomous Driving in 2027

[Technology Collaboration] Volkswagen Group China is deepening its partnership with Horizon Robotics on large AI models to accelerate the in-house development and deployment of L3/L4 autonomous driving technologies.

Core Development: L3 Autonomous Driving Delivery to Begin in Second Half of 2027

CARIZON, the Intelligent Driving Competence Center under Volkswagen Group China, has received a white-box license from Horizon Robotics. Leveraging Horizon’s foundational AI large model, CARIZON is developing a unified AI-driven autonomous driving solution featuring end-to-end, full-stack in-house R&D, covering everything from sensor input to decision-making and vehicle control.

Key Milestones: Advanced Smart Driving Features to Roll Out Across 7 New EVs Starting Q3

By the end of 2025, CARIZON’s first advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) will have been delivered and deployed on the ID.7 and the new ID.6. Beginning in Q3 2026, the full-scenario advanced driver assistance solution will be progressively integrated into seven new electric vehicle models from Volkswagen’s three joint ventures in China, expanding further from 2027 onward to a broader range of vehicles within the CEA product portfolio.

This collaboration represents a cornerstone of Volkswagen’s “In China, For China” strategy, aiming to establish a scalable L3/L4 technology foundation for both passenger vehicles and Robotaxis, while laying the groundwork for future technology exports to other international markets.
