Toyota Halts Development of Lexus LF-ZC All-Electric Sedan

[Strategic Adjustment] Toyota has confirmed the cancellation of mass production development for the next-generation all-electric Lexus sedan, the LF-ZC.

Key Move: Adjusting BEV Lineup in Response to Market Shifts

Toyota has confirmed it has decided to terminate the mass production plan for its premium brand’s Lexus LF-ZC, originally scheduled for launch in mid-2027. The vehicle was first unveiled in October 2023, targeting a range of 1,000 kilometers, utilizing Gigacasting integrated die-casting technology, and featuring a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.

Strategic Rationale: Global EV Policy Reversals and Weak Demand

Key reasons for this adjustment include the U.S. elimination of EV tax credits, the EU’s postponement of its 2035 internal combustion engine ban, and slowing global EV market growth. Toyota emphasized that this decision represents only a localized project optimization and does not signify abandonment of its BEV strategy.
