Tesla's Supervised FSD Launches in China
[Technology Deployment] Tesla's Supervised FSD (Full Self-Driving) has officially been added to the list of available regions in China.
Key Development: Full Public Rollout Scheduled for Q3 2026; Currently Limited to Employee Testing
On May 21, Tesla officially announced that FSD Supervised (Supervised Full Self-Driving) has been included in China’s list of supported regions, aligning with availability in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and seven other countries. However, the feature is not yet open to the general public. It is currently undergoing internal employee testing in cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, with a planned public release to regular owners expected in Q3 2026 following regulatory approval.
Strategic Foundation: L2+ Driver Assistance with Clear Liability
The Supervised FSD is fundamentally an SAE Level 2 advanced driver-assistance system. Drivers must remain fully attentive and monitor the system at all times during operation, and bear 100% responsibility for any accidents. Although Chinese customers have been able to purchase this option since 2019 (priced at RMB 64,000), the full functionality has remained unavailable for years, leading to multiple consumer complaints and disputes.
Industry Impact: Intensifying Competition in Advanced Intelligent Driving
FSD’s entry into China will directly compete with domestic solutions such as Huawei ADS and XPeng XNGP, accelerating technological iteration and market consolidation in the intelligent driving sector.
