Tesla Officially Announces Supervised FSD Launch in China
[Technology Deployment] Tesla has officially announced that its Supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability now supports the China region.
Key Development: China Added to Official List of Supported Regions for Supervised FSD
On May 21, Tesla updated its official Twitter account with the list of regions covered by Supervised FSD (Full Self-Driving Supervised), and China appeared on the availability list for the first time, alongside the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, and seven other regions. Although Tesla China has not yet issued an official announcement, this move is widely seen as a significant signal of regulatory compliance progress.
Strategic Foundation: Localization Preparations Fully Underway
Tesla has established an artificial intelligence training center in Shanghai, enabling localized storage and training using Chinese road data. The system has also undergone deep adaptation to complex local driving scenarios, including roads densely populated with non-motorized vehicles and intersections without traffic signals. Additionally, the company is urgently hiring autonomous driving vehicle test technicians across nine cities, under the Autopilot R&D department, requiring frequent business travel for on-site validation.
Industry Impact: Approval Expected in Q3
Combined with Elon Musk’s recent visit to China and his statement in the Q1 earnings report—aiming to secure formal FSD approval by the third quarter—regulatory clearance appears to be in its final stages.
