Tesla Semi Enters Mass Production After Nine-Year Development Journey

[New Vehicle Launch] Tesla's first production-model Semi electric truck has officially rolled off the high-output assembly line at its Nevada facility.

Core Development: Nine-Year Delay Finally Over, Dedicated Factory Begins Mass Production

On April 30, 2026, Tesla confirmed that the Semi electric truck has entered mass production—nine full years after its initial debut in 2017. Previously, only a limited number of hand-assembled pilot vehicles had been delivered to select customers like PepsiCo. Now, high-volume manufacturing has commenced at a newly built, 1.7-million-square-foot dedicated factory adjacent to the Nevada Gigafactory.

Key Specifications: 453 kg Weight Reduction, Up to 805 km Range

After three years of optimization, the production Semi features a weight reduction of approximately 1,000 pounds (453.6 kg). It is offered in two variants: the Standard Range version priced at $260,000, delivering a range of 523 km when fully loaded at 37 metric tons; and the Long Range version priced at $290,000, achieving a range of up to 805 km. The truck is powered by an 800 kW tri-motor system and supports 1.2 MW ultra-fast charging, enabling a 60% charge in just 30 minutes.

Strategic Foundation: Targeting the Class 8 Electric Heavy-Duty Truck Market with 50,000 Annual Capacity

The Semi is now the most affordable Class 8 all-electric tractor-trailer on the market. The dedicated factory is designed for an annual production capacity of 50,000 units, with output gradually ramping up ahead of volume deliveries starting in summer 2026.
