Stellantis Recalls 1.3 Million Jeep Vehicles Globally Over Fire Hazard

[Safety Recall] Stellantis is recalling over 1.3 million Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator models worldwide due to a fire risk that persists even when the vehicle is turned off.

Core Issue: Fire Risk Even When Parked and Off

The electric hydraulic power steering pump wiring harness has an electrical defect that may cause connector melting and ignite surrounding materials. A fire can occur even while the vehicle is switched off, as the battery remains capable of triggering ignition. The company has documented 72 suspected fire incidents, resulting in one injury.

Key Figures: Primarily North America, Global Impact

The recall affects 2021–2025 model year Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators, including approximately 1.08 million in the U.S., 106,000 in Canada, 23,000 in Mexico, and 125,000 in other markets, totaling more than 1.3 million vehicles.

Strategic Context: Regulatory Pressure and Preventive Action

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) initiated an investigation into this issue as early as September 2024. A final repair solution has not yet been confirmed but may involve replacing the wiring harness or the steering pump. In the meantime, the manufacturer advises owners to park their vehicles in open outdoor areas until repairs are completed.
