SAIC Volkswagen and Li Auto Exchange Critiques on Technological Generational Gap

[Corporate Clash] SAIC Volkswagen executives questioned Li Auto CEO Li Xiang's claim that the Li L9 Livis is 'two generations ahead,' arguing that Li Auto only holds advantages in pricing and marketing.

Core Development: Public Divergence in Technical Roadmaps

At the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, Li Xiang stated that the Li L9 Livis is at least two generations ahead of the ID.ERA 9X. In response, Li Jun, Executive Director of Brand Marketing at SAIC Volkswagen, countered by emphasizing that a true generational gap must stem from revolutionary technological advancements that cannot be bridged via OTA updates. He noted that Li Auto follows a rapid software iteration approach, whereas Volkswagen adheres to a mature German-engineered system.

Key Metrics: ID.ERA 9X Surpasses 11,000 Orders Within One Hour of Launch

The model is equipped with the EA211 'Golden Range Extender', which rolled off the production line on March 2. Positioned as a large three-row SUV, it directly competes with the next-generation Li L7. Although its dimensions align with the previous-generation L8, the L8 has since shifted to a five-seat configuration, effectively making the L7 its real competitor.

Strategic Foundation: Rejecting 'Push-up Marketing'

Li Jun subtly mocked Li Auto’s earlier failed active suspension demonstration, stressing that Volkswagen 'avoids gimmicks and shortcuts' and jokingly added that they would never label their vehicle as 'the best under 5 million.'
