Porsche Launches First GT3 Convertible: The Manual-Only 911 GT3 S/C
[New Vehicle Launch] Porsche has unveiled the 911 GT3 S/C, the first production GT3 convertible model.
Core Development: Convertible GT3 Offered Exclusively with 6-Speed Manual Transmission
The 911 GT3 S/C is the first GT3 model equipped with a fully automatic fabric roof, which opens or closes in 12 seconds at speeds up to 50 km/h. The vehicle is available only with a 6-speed manual transmission, excluding it from the automatic transmission market and consequently preventing official importation into China.
Key Specifications: Balancing Lightweight Design and Performance
It features a 4.0L naturally aspirated flat-six engine, delivering a maximum output of 375 kW (502 hp) and a redline of 9,000 rpm. Curb weight is 3,322 lbs for the U.S. version and 1,497 kg for the European version—only about 30 kg heavier than the Speedster.
Strategic Rationale: Broadening the 911’s Appeal
The car adopts a double-wishbone front suspension (unlike the standard 911’s MacPherson strut setup) and extensively uses carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) for components such as the hood and fenders. These measures preserve track-level handling despite the added weight of the convertible structure. This move reinforces the 911 series’ distinctive positioning in the sports car segment, aligning with Porsche’s record-breaking deliveries of 51,583 units in 2025.
