NIO's H1 Sales Nearly Catch Up to BBA Amid Premium EV Momentum

[Market Update] In the first half of 2026, NIO delivered 191,100 vehicles across its three brands, a year-over-year increase of 67.4%, trailing Mercedes-Benz and Audi by less than 30,000 units.

Key Development: NIO ES8 Large Five-Seater Targets Core Luxury Five-Seater SUV Segment

On July 9, NIO launched the ES8 Large Five-Seater, starting at RMB 382,800 (or RMB 274,800 with the battery-as-a-service option), directly challenging the last stronghold of traditional luxury brands. Li Bin stated the company’s condition is “significantly better than last year,” with over 78,000 ES8 units delivered in H1, securing its position as the top-selling model priced above RMB 400,000.

Key Metrics: Full-Year Target of 456,000–489,000 Units Likely to Surpass BBA

If NIO achieves its full-year growth target of 40%–50%, it is highly likely to overtake BBA (BMW, Benz, Audi) in annual sales volume. In contrast, Li Auto and Aito are struggling due to shrinking demand for range-extended EVs, while Xiaomi has only completed one-third of its annual target, making a comeback significantly more difficult.

Strategic Foundation: Stronger Consumer Acceptance of Premium BEVs

NIO’s average transaction price in the first half reached RMB 443,000, demonstrating Chinese consumers’ growing recognition of domestic premium brands and accelerating the expansion of the RMB 400,000+ pure electric SUV market.
