MIIT Invites Media to Monitor Automakers' Payment Terms

[Policy Update] The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has invited journalists from 20 media outlets to serve as supervisors for payment term compliance in the automotive industry.

Key Development: Journalists from 20 Media Outlets Appointed to Oversee Automakers’ Payment Terms

On July 27, MIIT held a symposium announcing that, starting June 2025, it will drive 17 key automakers to implement the Regulations on Ensuring Payment of Accounts Payable to Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and has launched the “60-day Payment Term Commitment.” To strengthen enforcement, the first group of “Automotive Industry Payment Term Supervisors” has officially taken up their roles, focusing on malpractices such as de facto extensions of payment terms.

Key Data: 60-Day Commitment Paired with Online Feedback Channel

The meeting noted that although most automakers have responded positively, some still indirectly extend payment terms by delaying the start date of the payment period or through non-standardized process management. In response, MIIT has opened an online channel—“Feedback Window for Issues (and Suggestions) Regarding Key Automakers’ Compliance with Payment Term Commitments”—and plans to accelerate the development of the Guidelines for Payment Practices of Automotive Enterprises to Suppliers.

Industry Impact: Building an Efficient and Collaborative Industrial Ecosystem

This initiative aims to leverage media oversight to promptly identify issues and provide objective feedback, fostering a win-win mechanism between automakers and their supply chain partners, thereby strengthening the foundation for high-quality development of the automotive industry.
