Michelin Invests RMB 3 Billion to Build Shanghai Future Factory

#Legacy Automaker EV Transitions

[Capacity Expansion] The Phase II expansion (Magnolia Project) of Michelin's Shanghai plant officially commenced production on January 23, 2026.

Core Development: World’s First Systematic 'Future Factory' Launched in China

The Magnolia Project represents a total investment of nearly RMB 3 billion, designated as a major foreign-invested project by Shanghai Municipality and Minhang District. Construction began in November 2023, covering an area exceeding 70,000 square meters.

Key Metrics: 70% of Tire Capacity Dedicated to New Energy Vehicles

Upon completion of Phase I, annual capacity will increase by 1 million units, raising total annual output from 8.5 million to 9.5 million tires. 70% of this capacity is allocated specifically for new energy vehicles, focusing on high-performance tires in the 18- to 24-inch range, including the Primacy 5 and Pilot Sport EV series.

Strategic Foundation: Dual Drivers of Flexible Manufacturing and Green Production

The facility introduces an ultra-flexible production model, enabling one tire成型 machine to produce a tire every 36 seconds, with minimum order quantities as low as 100 units and delivery lead times reduced from 10 days to 5 days. The plant achieves 100% electrification and full coverage by clean energy, integrating AI-powered quality inspection and digital twin technologies.
