Mercedes-AMG GLC53 Returns with a Six-Cylinder Engine

#Automotive Industry#Legacy Automaker EV Transitions

[New Model Launch] The Mercedes-AMG GLC53 4MATIC+ has officially debuted, replacing the four-cylinder GLC43 and the plug-in hybrid GLC63.

Core Development: Return of the Six-Cylinder Fills Performance Gap

The new GLC53 is powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six twin-turbocharged engine, producing 443 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque (boosting to 640 Nm for 10 seconds in overboost mode). It is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. Although its 0–60 mph acceleration time slightly increases to 4.1 seconds compared to the previous four-cylinder model, driving refinement and exhaust acoustics are significantly enhanced.

Key Specifications: Dual Upgrades in Performance and Practicality

With the optional AMG Dynamic Plus package, top speed reaches 270 km/h, and towing capacity improves from 1,800 kg to 2,400 kg. Fuel consumption stands at 9.4 L/100 km, better than the GLC43. For the first time on an AMG SUV, it features an electronically controlled rear limited-slip differential and a Drift Mode, enhancing its playful character.

Strategic Rationale: Restoring AMG’s Essence

This move signals AMG’s shift away from complex four-cylinder hybrid powertrains, reaffirming its commitment to the emotional appeal of six-cylinder sound and mechanical purity—paving the way for a future V8-powered GLC63.
