[Technical Defect] The Lynk & Co Z20 experienced an incident where voice misrecognition caused the headlights to turn off while driving. An OTA update has been deployed by the manufacturer to address the issue.

Core Development: Safety Risk from Erroneous Voice Command Activation

In the early hours of February 25, 2026, a Lynk & Co Z20 owner on an unlit highway issued the voice command “Turn off all reading lights.” The vehicle’s infotainment system mistakenly interpreted this as “Turn off all lights,” causing the headlights to instantly shut off. The vehicle subsequently collided with a barrier. Fortunately, there were no injuries.

Key Details: OTA Update Restricts Voice Control Permissions

On February 26, Mu Jun, Deputy General Manager of Lynk & Co Auto Sales Company, issued a public apology and announced that an optimized solution had been completed. Following the update, headlights can only be manually turned off while the vehicle is in motion, and voice control functionality for headlights has been completely disabled. This fix applies exclusively to Z20 models equipped with the FlymeAuto 2.0.0 system.

Strategic Principle: Safety Takes Priority Over Intelligent Features

Lynk & Co emphasized its commitment to “always safeguarding user safety.” The swift response highlights the company’s recalibration of functional safety priorities and serves as a warning to the entire industry: intelligent design must always be grounded in safety.
