Jiangling Ford Technology Ceases Operations After Failed ICE-Only Strategy in China’s EV Market
[Company Update] Jiangling Ford Automotive Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. has officially announced a complete halt to its business operations.
Core Development: Dissolved After Just Three Years, Joint Venture Marketing Company Enters Liquidation
Jiangling Ford Technology formally declared cessation of operations on April 16, 2026. The company had already suspended all new business activities since October 2025 and is now solely handling debt repayment. Established as a joint venture with Jiangling Motors holding a 51% stake and Ford holding 49%, the company had a registered capital of RMB 2.678 billion and was previously responsible for operating the Ford Beyond (Ford Zongheng) sales channel as well as models such as the Bronco and F-150 Raptor.
Key Figures: Insolvent with Annual Loss Exceeding RMB 750 Million
In 2025, the company reported a net loss of RMB 7.51 billion, with net assets at -RMB 6.29 billion, placing it in severe insolvency. Its product portfolio focused exclusively on internal combustion engine vehicles and it never launched any new energy vehicle (NEV) models, leaving it ill-equipped to compete in China’s rapidly evolving market where NEV penetration is accelerating.
Strategic Underpinnings: Channel Fragmentation and Delayed Transformation Led to Dual Pressures
Under Ford’s "One Ford" strategy, coordination between Changan Ford and Jiangling Ford Technology failed, resulting in duplicated resource allocation and significant internal inefficiencies. Compounded by the fact that rugged off-road SUVs represent a niche segment with limited sales volume, the company could not generate sufficient revenue to offset its high operational costs, ultimately leading to its shutdown.
