Since production began in 2015, locally produced models have incurred an average loss of approximately RMB 30,000 per vehicle over ten years at the dealership level. Their peak annual sales in China reached 146,000 units in 2017, previously securing a leading position among second-tier luxury brands.

Strategic Shift: Transition to Contract Manufacturing to Stay Afloat, Retaining Only Brand Licensing

The Changshu plant remains operational but has shifted to contract manufacturing of Chery-led Freelander models. Jaguar Land Rover now provides only brand licensing and design input, effectively ending the joint venture model.
