Hongqi's First Rugged Off-Roader Named G919
[New Vehicle Launch] Hongqi has officially named its first rugged off-road SUV the "G919," which will debut at the Beijing Auto Show in 2026.
Core Developments: Name Breaks from Public Suggestions, Design Integrates Chinese Aesthetics
The official name departs from previously crowd-sourced options like "Xiongshi" (Mighty Lion) and "Kunlun," instead introducing the new designation G919—where "G" stands for the backbone of national automotive excellence, "9" symbolizes flagship status and service, and "1" highlights performance leadership. The exterior carries over the concept car’s styling, incorporating mortise-and-tenon design elements and square-outer, round-inner headlights, and features LiDAR, an externally mounted spare tire, and all-terrain (AT) tires.
Key Specifications: 843 HP and 280 km Pure Electric Range
Dimensions measure 5135/2050/1950 mm (length/width/height) with a wheelbase of 2900 mm. Power comes from a 2.0T range-extended hybrid system paired with four electric motors, delivering a combined output of 620 kW (843 hp) and peak torque of 1320 N·m. It is equipped with a 63 kWh ternary lithium battery, offering a CLTC-rated pure-electric range of 280 km.
Strategic Foundation: Reviving Military-Grade Off-Road Heritage
FAW developed a 6×6 military off-road truck as early as 1959. The G919 inherits this legacy through its body-on-frame chassis and heavy-duty off-road engineering expertise, targeting the premium rugged SUV segment.
