Dongfeng Leverages Stellantis Plant to Enter Europe

[Global Expansion] Dongfeng Motor will produce its Voyah brand electric vehicles at Stellantis' Rennes plant in France.

Key Development: First Chinese Automaker to Achieve Large-Scale Vehicle Production in France

Voyah's all-electric models will be contract-manufactured at the Stellantis Rennes plant, with an initial annual capacity of approximately 40,000 units. The facility currently only produces the Citroën C5 Aircross and has significant idle capacity.

Strategic Rationale: Avoiding EU Tariffs and Utilizing Joint Venture Assets

In response to the European Union’s additional tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, Dongfeng has chosen to deepen cooperation with long-time partner Stellantis—with whom it established the joint venture Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroën Automobile (DPCA) back in 1992. The two parties plan to form a new joint venture, in which Stellantis will hold a 51% stake. The agreement was officially announced around May 20.

Industry Impact: Pioneering a New Export Model via Idle Capacity Contract Manufacturing

Following XPeng and Leapmotor, Dongfeng becomes another Chinese automaker leveraging existing European manufacturing facilities for localized production, highlighting that the "Chinese Brand + European Production Capacity" model is emerging as a dominant strategy for overseas expansion.
