BMW Halts Production of Domestically Made All-Electric Models

[Product Adjustment] BMW will cease production of all domestically manufactured all-electric models—the i3, i5, and iX1—starting in July.

Core Development: ICE-Derived EVs Fully Phased Out, Neue Klasse Platform Takes Over

The three models—i3, i5, and iX1—based on the CLAR platform (designed for both internal combustion and electric powertrains)—will be simultaneously discontinued in July 2026, officially concluding their product lifecycles. The company stated this move is a "routine capacity adjustment based on market dynamics and product cycles," and does not signify a withdrawal from the domestic all-electric vehicle market.

Key Metrics: i3 Maintains Monthly Sales Above 1,000 Units

Over the past year, monthly sales exceeded 1,000 units in every month except February 2026 (Lunar New Year off-season), when 577 units were sold. Sales in May and June 2026 even surpassed 2,200 units consecutively, demonstrating strong performance in the RMB 200,000-class all-electric sedan segment.

Strategic Shift: Transition to Dedicated EV Architecture

The new long-wheelbase i3, built on the Neue Klasse (New Class) platform, made its global debut in April 2026 and is scheduled for production by BMW Brilliance in the fourth quarter of the same year. Featuring an 800V high-voltage architecture, this model marks BMW’s full transition to a dedicated electric vehicle platform.
