BMW Unveils Fifth-Generation X5/iX5 with Neue Klasse Design and Multi-Powertrain Strategy
[New Model Launch] BMW has officially revealed the fifth-generation X5/iX5, featuring comprehensive updates in design and powertrain.
Core Development: Design Language Breaks from Tradition
The new X5/iX5 adopts BMW's Neue Klasse (NK) design language, equipped with horizontally spanning headlights and a compact illuminated dual-kidney grille. The front daytime running lights form a double "X" shape, significantly enhancing visual recognition. The lower sections of the front fascia differ between combustion-engine and all-electric versions: the former retains larger air intakes, while the latter features a more enclosed design.
Key Specifications: Diverse Powertrains and Localization Timeline
Five powertrain options will be offered: gasoline, diesel, plug-in hybrid, all-electric (iX5), and hydrogen fuel cell. The model will launch overseas in late November 2026, with the electric variant following in early 2027. The localized long-wheelbase version is expected to enter production in 2027.
Strategic Foundation: Accelerating Electrification Transformation
BMW is leveraging the X5—one of its core models—to comprehensively advance electrification, catering to diverse global market demands and reinforcing its competitiveness in the premium midsize-to-large SUV segment.
