Beijing Launches Dedicated Insurance for Intelligent New Energy Vehicles
[Policy Update] Beijing has taken the lead nationwide in initiating the development and application of commercial insurance tailored for intelligent connected new energy vehicles.
Core Development: Insurance Covering All Levels from L2 to L4 Autonomous Driving to Be Implemented Soon
The Beijing Municipal Financial Regulatory Bureau announced on March 29, 2026, at the Zhongguancun Forum the launch of dedicated insurance development aimed at addressing the gap in existing auto insurance policies, which currently fail to cover risks unique to autonomous driving. The new product will be an optimized version of the current new energy vehicle insurance, uniformly compatible with intelligent connected vehicles across all autonomy levels from L2 to L4.
Key Details: Broader Coverage and Higher Limits
The new insurance policy will clarify key definitions, standardize policy language, and expand coverage scope—specifically including consumer-funded upgrades to advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and hardware/software damages arising from emerging scenarios such as human-machine collaborative driving.
Strategic Foundation: Supporting High-Quality Productivity and Industrial Intelligence
Under the guidance of the National Financial Regulatory Administration and driven by the Beijing Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, Beijing adheres to the principles of 'legal compliance, risk control, pilot-first approach, and continuous improvement' to enable the insurance industry to precisely meet the evolving needs of intelligent connected vehicle development.
